Free beta · version 0.2.0

Try the VineScale free beta

VineScale is a safety gate for AI coding agents: Claude Code, with beta support for Codex, Cursor, Antigravity and Grok Build. Before the agent runs a command, edits a file or calls a database tool, VineScale works out what the action would touch. It lets the action through, asks you first, or blocks it, with one line that says why. It runs on your machine and it's free.

VineScale blocked: drops table users on prod-db.internal/shop (production). Ask the user to run it.

How ready is the beta?

We're testing VineScale with a small group of developers to find out what breaks and what's missing. Expect rough edges: it may ask about something harmless, or let through something it should have caught. Use it as an extra check beside your own care and backups, not in place of them.

Support for Codex, Cursor, Antigravity and Grok Build is new in version 0.2.0 and is in beta. The gate is tested against each agent's documented hook format, but we haven't yet run it live inside those four agents, so tell us what you see if you use one of them. Codex and Grok Build, and Cursor for some actions, can't stop to ask you, so where the gate would ask, it blocks the step and hands it to you instead. The known limits list the rest.

We'll keep fixing things as reports come in. Over time we plan to build a bigger and better version: shared rules for a whole team and warnings when a change in one repo would break another.

How do I install it?

Run one command. On macOS or Linux, in a terminal:

curl -fsSL https://vinescale.com/get.sh | sh

On Windows, in PowerShell:

irm https://vinescale.com/get.ps1 | iex

Each command downloads the vine build for your machine from VineScale's GitHub repository, checks its SHA-256 checksum, puts it in your own user folder and adds the gate to Claude Code and to each of Codex, Cursor, Antigravity and Grok Build it finds. No admin rights, no sudo, nothing to download in your browser. Then start a new session in your agent, or restart Cursor, and the gate is on. In Codex, run /hooks and trust VineScale's hook first.

Prefer a Claude Code plugin, Scoop on Windows, or adding it to one agent at a time? It's all in the docs.

How does it learn my production systems?

The gate already knows the obvious cases, like your default branch and your home folder. To let it see your databases and infrastructure, index each repository you work in:

vine index .
vine map

vine map lists each database, Terraform workspace, kube context and cloud profile VineScale found, and whether it counts as production. If one is labelled wrong, set it in .vinescale.yml. The docs explain what it checks and how it decides.

What feedback do you want?

  • Anything it blocked or asked about that it shouldn't have.
  • Anything risky it let through.
  • Trouble installing, especially on Windows and macOS.
  • What you'd want it to do next.

Report a bug, open an issue on GitHub, or reply to the email that invited you. If you share a line from ~/.vinescale/gate.log, check it first: passwords and tokens in commands are redacted, but host and table names are not.

Does it send my data anywhere?

vine makes no network calls when it decides and sends nothing to us. Its index and its log stay in ~/.vinescale. The only downloads are the vine build itself, from GitHub, when you install or update it.

How do I remove it?

Run one command:

vine uninstall

That takes the gate out of every agent and leaves your other settings as they were. Then delete vine itself. The docs cover the plugin and Scoop.

What does it cost?

The gate is free for Claude Code, and for Codex, Cursor, Antigravity and Grok Build in beta support, during the beta and after it. A paid Team tier, with shared rules and an audit log for the whole team, is planned at $25 per developer a month. Join the waitlist to hear when it's ready.

Frequently asked questions

Which coding agents does the VineScale beta work with?

Claude Code, with beta support for Codex, Cursor, Antigravity and Grok Build, which arrived in version 0.2.0. Codex and Grok Build, and Cursor for some actions, can't stop to ask you, so where VineScale would ask, it blocks the step and hands it to you instead.

Do I need admin rights to install VineScale?

No. The one-line install puts vine in your own user folder, with no admin rights, no sudo and no Windows permission prompt, and nothing to download in your browser.

What happens if VineScale itself breaks?

It fails open. If the gate crashes, can't read its config, has no index or runs out of time, it lets the action through as if it weren't installed, so it never stops your work because of its own fault. That also means a fault in the gate is no check at all for that action.

Can VineScale replace backups and least-privilege credentials?

No. It's a beta that may let through something it should have caught. Use it as an extra check beside backups, read-only credentials and your agent's own permission rules, not in place of them.
